WHAT I DO

From a good idea to something the music business can work with.

Using music in a new product or service can open exciting opportunities. It can also introduce unfamiliar questions around rights, licensing, repertoire, partners, economics and industry relationships.

TiltShift helps turn those questions into a practical route forward. I work independently, with no platform, catalogue or technology to sell. The starting point is your idea and what it needs to succeed.

01

Rights & Licensing Strategy

Helping businesses navigate music rights, licensing structures and rightsholder relationships, particularly when bringing new products, services or business models to market.

I know what rightsholders are looking for and can help you prepare for and navigate licensing negotiations with greater confidence.

02

Music Strategy for New Products & Services

Helping companies and start-ups understand what using music in a product, platform or service means in practice, from rights and repertoire to partners, economics and industry relationships.

I stress-test the idea from the perspective of the music companies and partners you will need, identify likely obstacles and help find practical ways around them.

03

Catalogue & Market Strategy

Identifying opportunities around repertoire, catalogue development, new markets, partnerships and the long-term value of music assets.

04

Strategic Research & Advisory

Independent research into music markets, competitors, business models and emerging opportunities, translating complex industry developments into practical strategic recommendations.

EXPERTISE

My perspective comes from having worked across different sides of the music business, from music retail and major record companies to media, entrepreneurship, licensing and emerging music platforms.

That breadth matters. New ideas in music rarely succeed through technology, rights, marketing or investment alone. They succeed when those different parts of the business work together.

ABOUT PETER

Four decades in music.
Still curious about what comes next.

Peter Soetewey, founder of TiltShift

I'm Peter Soetewey, founder of TiltShift.

I've spent more than four decades working across the music business, starting in record retail before moving into strategic marketing roles at Universal Music and Warner Music.

I later spent almost a decade at one of Belgium's leading commercial media groups, working with the music and publishing industries across radio and television. During that period, I began developing new ideas around the relationship between media, music and streaming.

That eventually led me into music entrepreneurship. I co-developed a new streaming proposition and took it through business modelling, rights and licensing, technology, investment, partnership discussions and market positioning. It gave me first-hand experience of what happens when a promising idea meets the practical realities of the music business.

Today, I advise emerging music platforms on licensing, content and rightsholder strategy, helping translate new technology propositions into approaches the music industry can understand and engage with. TiltShift brings those different strands of experience together into an independent advisory practice.

I've watched the industry move from vinyl and CDs to downloads, streaming, immersive audio and AI. What interests me isn't simply the next technology. It's what happens when technology meets music rights, consumer behaviour and commercial reality.

Because that's usually where the interesting questions begin.
